Grizzly Death

New Laptop

My laptop died a grizzly death today. It went flying off the back of my motorcycle at 60+ miles per hour, hitting the pavement and enduring the unknown for probably 20 minutes before I rescued it from the median during rush hour traffic.

The case was pretty beaten up. It had holes and the zipper had been completely ripped off. I don't know if it was hit by a car after leaving the relative safety of my motorcycle, but it certainly could have been.

I was really hoping it would survive and the early signs were that it was going to. The laptop itself had maintained hull integrity. When I turned it on the right little lights turned green. I believe it booted up OK. The problem is that the screen no longer works.

If it had survived this laptop would have been the only laptop I've ever owned that really had character. I guess laptops are just doomed to live out their lives in tasteless boredom.

Anyway, I picked up a new Compaq for cheap today. I'm downloading the latest Ubuntu Linux so I can get started on the new install. Hopefully this laptop will be as good as the last.

I've got to say that the people at Dell did well. I would have high praise for them if it still worked, but even being able to boot without a visual is a lot to ask of a laptop after enduring this torture.
